Trezor.io/start — Your Onboarding Guide to Crypto Security

Introduction: What is Trezor.io/start?

Trezor.io/start is the official onboarding portal provided by Trezor, part of SatoshiLabs, designed to securely guide new users through the setup of their hardware wallets—be it the Model One, Model T, Trezor Safe 3, or Safe 5 Google SitesTrezor.

This page prioritizes authentication and safety, directing users to trusted tools (like Trezor Suite) and firmware updates essential for securing digital assets.

Step-by-Step Setup Process

  1. Download Trezor Suite

Begin by downloading the Trezor Suite desktop app for the most reliable experience, or choose to “Continue in browser” to use the web app. Trezor+1

  2. Install the App

Install the downloaded desktop app. This step is optional if you're using the web version. Trezor+1

  3. Connect and Set Up Your Trezor

    • Plug in your Trezor hardware wallet.

    • Follow the on-screen instructions to begin setup—typically takes about 15 minutes. Trezor+1

    • Perform a security check: ensure packaging is intact and the holographic seal is untampered. If anything seems off, contact Trezor support immediately. Trezor+1

  4. Install Firmware

Most Trezor devices ship without firmware. The first step is to install the latest version. Once complete, click Continue. Trezor+1

  5. Create or Recover a Wallet

    • If new, select “Create new wallet.”

    • Existing users can choose “Recover wallet” using a recovery seed (also referred to as "wallet backup"). Trezor+2Trezor+2

  6. Wallet Backup (Recovery Seed)

    • Choose between Standard seed backup or, on newer devices like Model T or Safe 3/5, possibly Advanced (Shamir) backup. Trezor+1

    • For Standard backup, your device will generate a sequence of words (12, 18, 20, or 24 depending on model/version)—write these down securely, offline. Trezor+2Trezor+2

    • You’ll then verify selected words to confirm the backup is correct. Trezor+1

  7. Set a PIN

    • After confirming your backup, set up a PIN to protect your device from unauthorized physical access.

    • On Model One, Safe 3, and Safe 5, PIN entry is randomized for added security. Model T uses a touchscreen for PIN entry. Trezor+3Trezor+3Trezor+3

  8. Activate Coins

Choose which cryptocurrencies you want visible and accessible within Trezor Suite. This configuration can be changed later. Trezor+2Trezor+2
